Role of YAP in Pancreas Injury and Regeneration
Ryu Ji-Kon

Abstract
During regeneration of acinar cells after injury, YAP, survivin, XIAP and Hes-1 are highly expressed and dedifferentiation of acinar cells occurred through the formation of Pdx1-expressing metaplastic epithelium. Initially, survivin was described as an inhibitor of caspase-9. However, over the last years, research studies have shown that the role of survivin is not
limited to apoptosis inhibition but also involves the regulation of the mitotic spindle checkpoint and the promotion of proliferation.14 YAP in acinar cells has a protective role against cerulein induced pancreatitis and absence of YAP significantly delays the regeneration of acinar cells through the relatively low expression of survivin which might have important role for proliferation of acinar cells rather than anti-apoptotic function.
